A spring-urged cartridge ejector (19) is latched in cockedposition by an ejector latch plunger (35) which is displaceable by the mechanical pressureexerted by the outer side of a fired cartridge to move from a non-latching inner positionto an outer position latching the cartridge ejector (19). From the outer position, theplunger is moved back to the inner position by camming interaction of the outer plungerend (35b) and the receiver sidewall (15) upon tilting the firearm to fully open orsubstantially fully open the position of the action.
