1. quantity的基本意思是“数量”,是正式用语。作与质量相对而言的“数量”解时是不可数名词,指事物的“量”或“总数量”时是可数名词。quantity强调大批计量,含有准确测量的意味。
2. quantity不能用much, less等表示“多少”意义的词修饰,可用large, great, small等表示“大小”意义的词修饰。
3. a (large〔great〕) quantity of或quantities of的意思是“大量”,其后均可跟不可数名词或复数名词。在句中作主语时, a quantity of接不可数名词时,谓语动词用单数形式,接可数名词复数时,谓语动词用复数形式; quantities of修饰不可数名词或可数名词复数时,谓语动词都用复数形式。
